A Day of Service

SCA Health facilities participated in the MLK Day of Service by giving back to their local communities.

Giving Back

See how some SCA Health ASCs decided to give back to their communities during the MLK Day of Service.

Every year on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, SCA Health encourages our ASC partners, physicians, and teammates to take the opportunity to give back to their communities through the MLK Day of Service. Below is a recap of some community service projects SCA Health ASCs took part in this year:

Allina Health Surgery Center – Brooklyn Park (Brooklyn Park, MN) / Center for Restorative Surgery at Maple Grove (Mapel Grove, MN)

Teammates at Allina Health Surgery Center – Brooklyn Park and the Center for Restorative Surgery at Maple Grove collaborated to donate items and provide services for the Alexandria House of Minnesota. The non-profit charity offers free domestic, sexual, and relationship violence services for women, men, and children throughout the state of Minnesota.

Raritan Valley Surgical Center (Somerset, NJ)

For the MLK Day of Service, the Raritan Valley Surgical Center created cards for the Nursing Home Card Project. This non-profit organization focuses on making cards for elderly nursing home residents who may feel alone when apart from their families.

Surgical Specialty Center of Minnesota (St. Louis Park, MN)

SCA Health teammates from the Surgical Specialty Center of Minnesota spent their MLK Day of Service assembling kits for homeless youth at The Bridge in Minneapolis. These kits included necessities and fun items to help these children during a difficult time.

Allina Hearth & Vascular (Coon Rapids, MN)

As part of a year-round initiative, Allina Heart & Vascular teammates recognized their MLK Day of Service by continuing to collect and donate socks during this frigid Minnesota winter. The team donates the socks to a local community member, who distributes them to those in need.

Surgicare of Central Jersey (Watchung, NJ) / Harrison Endo Surgical Center (Harrison, NJ)

In another example of collaboration between SCA Health facilities, Surgicare of Central Jersey and Harron Endo Surgical Center teammates partnered with Rise Against Hunger. Together, the duo packed 10,000 meals for families across the world. The group also raised $4,000 for the organization. 2024 marked Surgicare of Central Jersey’s 4th Annual MLK Day of Service and its fourth year partnering with Rise Against Hunger.

St. Cloud Surgical Center (St. Cloud, MN)

Teammates at St. Cloud Surgical Center donated items to fill 50 backpacks for Pockets of Hope. This organization gathers items for children leaving their homes and entering the foster care system. Various comforting and essential items were placed into the backpacks to assist the children during their difficult transition.

Boca Raton Outpatient Surgery & Laser Center (Boca Raton, FL)

Teammates at Boca Raton Outpatient Surgery and Laser Center did some early spring cleaning to benefit local veterans! Center staff cleaned out their closets and filled 29 full bags of clothes and other goods. These bags and goods were then donated to Vietnam Veterans of America.
